Santa Monica, CA (December 11, 2019)<\/strong> \u2013 Dalton Investments LLC (\u201cDalton\u201d)\nhas adhered to and been accepted to the UN-supported Principles for Responsible\nInvestment (the \u201cPRI\u201d) as of December 11, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PRI are a set of six voluntary\ninvestment principles for institutional investors based on the idea that\nenvironmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, such as climate change,\nhuman rights and corporate governance, can affect the performance of investment\nportfolios and should therefore be considered alongside traditional financial\nfactors.  Signatories have an obligation\nto report annually on the extent to which they implement the PRI. The PRI is\nthe world\u2019s leading proponent of responsible investment. It works to understand\nthe investment implications of ESG factors and to support its international\nnetwork of investor signatories in incorporating these factors into their\ninvestment and ownership decisions. The PRI acts in the long-term interests of\nits signatories, of the financial markets and economies in which they operate\nand ultimately of the environment and society as a whole. Launched in New York\nin 2006, the PRI has grown to over 2,800 signatories, managing over $90\ntrillion AUM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Becoming a member of the PRI\nreflects Dalton\u2019s ongoing commitment to responsible investment and its belief\nthat investing in companies with superior ESG characteristics is consistent\nwith its investment philosophy. Dalton\u2019s CEO Belita Ong said, \u201cWe believe that actively\nengaging with company management in improving ESG standards will benefit our\nclients in the long run.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PRI CEO Fiona Reynolds said, \u201cIn\njoining the PRI, Dalton Investments is clearly recognising the importance of\nESG factors to its pension, endowment, foundation, financial institution and\nfamily office clients. We are very pleased to welcome Dalton Investments as a\nsignatory, and look forward to working with them in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In connection with joining the\nPRI community, Dalton has amended its Sustainable Investment Philosophy, which\nhad been published on March 18, 2018, to specifically incorporate the PRI\nprinciples.  Dalton\u2019s Sustainable\nInvestment Philosophy can be viewed here<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Dalton will formally\nadopt a set of ESG principles within its UCITS product range, serving the\nEuropean investment community. Going forward, Dalton\u2019s investment process for\nUCITS products will include exclusionary screensbased on the World Bank\nGroup’s International Finance Corporation (“IFC”) Exclusion\nList.* Businesses screened out will include those that engage in the production\nof weapons, liquor, tobacco products, non-medical radioactive products,\nproduction of asbestos, or any product or activity deemed illegal under host\ncountry laws or international conventions; and exposure will be limited in\ncompanies that produce thermal coal or that derive oil from oil sands extraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, Craig Mercer, Chief\nResearch Officer and resident ESG specialist at Dalton\u2019s Australia subsidiary\nadds, \u201cWe are very excited about becoming an active member of the PRI. For many\nyears, Dalton has been a strong advocate of corporate governance reform;\nbecoming a signatory of the PRI is a further endorsement of our long-term\ncommitment to capital preservation and sustainable long-term growth.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
