Sunnyvale

Sunnyvale

Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Sunnyvale is home to some of the country’s most successful businesses including Yahoo, Fortinet, and Advanced Micro Devices. It is a short drive to some of California’s top educational institutions such as Stanford University, San Jose State, and Santa Clara University in addition to a number of community colleges that offer a great selection of classes and programs for residents. Sunnyvale is a very desirable place to live with a low crime rate, great weather, and its close proximity to the Pacific Coast and the Bay Area.

In the late 1800’s fruit orchards abounded in the Sunnyvale area, and in 1871 the first fruit cannery was established in the area. Fruit orchards and canneries dominated Sunnyvale’s economy until World War II when the focus shifted from fruit to the defense industry. Today, the economy is largely based on high-tech industries. Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Inc., is a native of Sunnyvale.
